Bursitis

hands grasping knee in painBursitis occurs when the fluid filled sacs, or bursa, that cushion your muscles around joints become inflamed. If a joint is overused or under pressure for long periods of time from sport, work, or otherwise, a nearby bursa may be affected. It can also occur when you bump a joint, such as your knee or elbow, causing irritation to the joint’s bursa. Bursitis is painful, but it’s a treatable and preventable condition.

What Are Bursa?

Bursa are fluid-filled sacs located all over the body to provide cushioning for muscles and tendons to roll over joints and other areas. They provide a barrier to prevent unpleasant rubbing on structures.

Known colloquially as the “working man’s disease,” they often get inflamed through overuse or improper biomechanics, and create a lot of discomfort. Pain, swelling, and tenderness in the joint are common symptoms of bursitis.

Fast, Natural Relief

When a person develops bursitis, reducing the inflammation is key. At Back to Balance Chiropractic & Family Wellness, we believe using our MLS Class IV Robotic Laser is the way to go. Our laser is very effective at relieving pain by decreasing inflammation fast.

Dr. Spencer had a patient come in recently with bursitis in the shoulder. After two treatments, the inflammation was gone and she was pain free. Shoulders tend to be the areas we see bursitis the most, but it may show up in the knees, hips, elbows, wrists, and other areas of the body.

In some cases, the joint may need additional help. We are trained to adjust shoulders, knees, hips, or nearly any joint that is dysfunctional. After the injury is assessed, treating the area with non-invasive laser therapy helps calm down the inflammation, and then we can help restore proper motion to the joint to heal the injured area with gentle adjustments.
