MLS Class IV Robotic Laser Therapy

Within laser therapy, there are multiple classes used. At Back to Balance Chiropractic & Family Wellness, we use MLS Class IV Robotic Laser Therapy. The laser is painless and non-invasive, and doesn’t generate heat within the tissue.

What Are Some Benefits?

Some primary benefits of the therapy include increased blood supply to damaged tissue, reduced pain and inflammation, improved nerve function, accelerated wound healing, and more.

How Does It Work?

The laser penetrates the affected or injured tissue and stimulates the cells to cause a cascade of healing factors in that area. The laser increases the metabolic activity of every human cell and activates mitochondria (within the damaged cell) to produce increased ATP (energy). This process allows the cell to become healthy again.

An occasional sufferer of bursitis in both elbows, I have found total relief from pain and swelling with one, or occasionally, two treatments with the laser. Recently, I woke up with excruciating pain in my left shoulder and suspected bursitis. I called Dr. Gunn. Ten minutes with the laser and the pain and inability to move disappeared. Miraculous! This practice is awesome, and the laser is truly amazing.

What Conditions Can Laser Address?

The laser can treat pain and inflammation associated with the following:

  • Arthritis
  • Back and neck injuries
  • Bursitis
  • Carpal tunnel syndrome
  • Golf elbow
  • Herniated discs
  • Knee pain
  • Neuropathy
  • Plantar fasciitis
  • Sciatica
  • Spinal stenosis
  • Sprains and strains
  • Tennis elbow

In chiropractic, we look at the spine as the protective covering of the spinal cord, which is the mechanism through which the brain communicates with the body and controls every physiological process. We like to try and address the spine, and allow the brain to communicate with the body and allow it to work the way it should.

Sometimes you need a little help locally, so if you have a disc injury, for example, it’s important to calm down that inflammation at the source. We can position the laser right over that area, which will cause localized healing and create an anti-inflammatory and pain-relieving effect.

Do I have to undress?

You will only need to have the area we’re addressing exposed. So for example, if we’re targeting your bursitis in your hip, we recommend you wear shorts that can be adjusted to expose the area to the laser. We will also have gowns available.

Does getting laser therapy hurt?

No, some patients experience a slight warmth and some tingling sensations, but not pain.

How long does a typical treatment session take?

A typical treatment session takes 8-15 minutes, but depends on the size of the area being addressed and the complexity of the condition being treated.

How many sessions will I need?

The number of sessions depends on the condition being addressed. The typical course of treatment takes between 6 and 12 visits.

When will I start noticing results?

You may feel your condition improve after 1 to 3 sessions. For some more chronic conditions, it may take up to 6 visits to feel the benefits of laser therapy. It’s important to remember that everyone will respond differently to laser therapy.
